Over the last few decades, it has been made possible for
doctors to reattach hair to their patient’s scalp. This has been made possible
through the use of 3 types of hair transplant procedures: grafts, flaps, and
tissue expansion. Recently, however, scientists have come up with new and
improved ways to implant hair, which is mainly done with the help of robotic
technology. Before booking an appointment for hair transplant surgery Palo Alto, it is always wise to find out which of these procedures the doctor will
be performing.
Grafts
Once the patient has been put under local anesthesia, the
hair transplant surgery can begin. When using the graft method, a portion of
the scalp is removed, in graft form, and then thousands of hair strands are
inserted into the scalp. When this step has been fulfilled, the graft of skin
is reattached, and the patient is given another appointment and now has to
recover. The graft option require its patients to return for several of these
sessions.
Flaps
While grafting is still very effective, it has been known to
take time, as several appointments are needed. However, when dealing with the
flap method, a healthy portion of the scalp is removed from the patient's head,
and then stretched out and manipulated by the hair transplant specialist. The
hair flap is then reattached to its owner, but made to cover the balding areas.
While flaps are more effective than grafts, scarring can be present as a result
of this method, however, the scars are usually covered up by the newly grown
hair.
Tissue Expansion
Tissue expansion is another method of hair transplantation.
In this procedure, patients present themselves to their hair implant specialist
and have a tissue expander placed beneath their scalp. This tissue expander is
placed under a healthy patch of hair and remains there for a time. The tissue
is then expanded and grafted onto problematic areas once it has gained enough
elasticity.
Robotic Hair Transplant
Robotic hair transplant is the newest and most efficient way
to receive hair transplants. Instead of using grafts, flaps, and tissue
expansion, robotic hair transplantation is accomplished by using digital
imaging and precision robotics. In other words, these robotics select
individual hair groupings instead of removing portions of the scalp. This
method has proven to be very effective, less painful, and more ideal as it
requires little to no recovery time.
In the last decade, robotic hair transplant has been
perfected, causing many people to sign up for its services. Since balding can
be a sensitive issue, it is nice to know that there are many different types of
options on the market that can reverse the effects of hair loss.
